Content development refers to three related types of writing: web
content , web copy , and search engine copywriting.
Web content and copy are often used interchangeably but they actually
have different meanings. Web content is writing on your site designed
to communicate specific information to your readers. Web content
builds awareness of your products and services. Engaging content
answers your customers' questions and builds trust between you and
them.
Web copy, however, is designed to deliver your
company's marketing messages and ask for specific responses from your
site visitors. If you sell products then your copy has to initiate and
close the selling process. If you offer services, your copy has to
deliver the value proposition that distinguishes yours from your
competition's. If you are asking people to request more information,
your copy must convert casual visitors into responsive leads.
You've probably heard that 80% of Internet sessions
begin at the search engines. This means that potential customers are
using the search engines to find out about your products and
services. Better yet, it means they're ready to buy. If your site
doesn't rank high in search engine result pages, you're losing
potential sales.
